In Memory

The Joy & The Pain…
This week we said a final goodbye to Pansy Weekes, who sadly passed away on July 1st…
Her sudden death just 2 days after the elation of Summer Soulstice 7, which she attended, shocked family, friends & all that knew her. A kind & humble person, she was known for her love of singing & was extremely proud of her children & grandchildren. Pansy was always at the Soulstice events & was highly appreciative of everyone who came to them & keeping her late son’s memory alive. Last year she wrote in a letter to our sponsors, supporters & helpers, “May I on behalf of my family & the Soulstice Crew, thank you for your continued support of this wonderful annual event. To remember Andy in this way & as a by-product, raise so much money for such a great cause, should give you great satisfaction & we are enormously grateful to you.”
Born on the Caribbean island of Nevis in 1940, Pansy came to Britain in the 1960’s, marrying her husband Charles & finally settling in Barnet in 1969. Together they had 6 children: Donald, Steve, Richard, Gary, Kerensa & of course, Andy.
Pansy was a well-known & much loved character in the area & over 300 friends & neighbours gathered @ St John the Baptist, Barnet Church on Tuesday 16th July, joining Pansy’s family, to pay their final respects to this wonderful lady.
We will sorely miss our ‘queen’ @ Soulstice HQ, she was an integral part of the event’s very existence, but we know she’s back with Andy now & we’ve dedicated SS7 to her this year. The joy & pain has certainly been experienced in the past couple of weeks, but these words penned by Frankie Beverley himself, have helped a little:
“Over & over you can be sure, there will be sorrow but you will endure… Where there’s a flower there’s the sun & the rain, oh & it’s wonderful there both one in the same…”
