Summer Soulstice

SS9 Going Live This June!
2015’s Summer Soulstice on Saturday 27th June will see a full live performance at the event for the first time in 5 years as Bah Samba bring their carnival sound alongside UK chanteuse Juliet Roberts!
Also confirmed will be rising British singer/songwriting team SouLutions who’ve enjoyed recent success with their singles ‘Listen’ & ‘Philly Line’.
Not since Atmosfear & Savanna double-headed on the SS4 stage have we had a full live performance at the Old Elizabethans event site. Now the ‘live vibe’ returns with Bah Samba, formed in 1996 by Julian Bendall, Kevin Alexanda & Geoff Holroyd (the surnames make up the Bah bit!). A loose group of naturally talented musicians to play live & record a few songs, whilst experimenting with the fusion of traditional musicianship, dance & modern recording techniques. Their musical influences of the band are quite diverse but always significant & predominantly taken from a Soul, Latin, Funk, Disco, Boogie, Jazz & Classical background, with the emphasis on great songs. They constantly strive to find new artists to learn and collaborate with on his many travels, which is clearly represented through his music.
To date they have work with the likes of Bill Curtis & the Fatback Band, Roy Ayers, Alexander ONeal, Monique Bingham, Phil Asher, Quentin Harris, Nathan Haines, Osunlade, Modaji, Louie Vega to name just a very few. Now 2015 they team up with the superb Juliet Roberts.
Juliet is a UK jazz, soul & house music singer, who originally recorded as Julie Roberts in 1982. In 1984 she began a four year stint as vocalist for the jazz group Working Week. She also taught British TV viewers vocal performance basics on the Rock School series and in addition to her solo and musical ensemble projects, she has carved out a career as an in-demand backing vocalist. Juliet enjoyed her biggest solo successes when she was signed to Cooltempo Records with hits such as ‘Caught In The Middle’, ‘I Want U’ and ‘Free Love’ and again in 2001 when she vocalled David Morales‘ classic dancer ‘Needin U II’ (on Manifesto Records).
Soul duo SouLutions (Louise Mehan & Steve Lee) hail from the north east of England. Louise (from Newcastle) could ‘sing before she could talk’ and was always expected to sing at any and every family gathering. In her late teens she began to work the local pubs and clubs of the area, winning local song contests and building up a reputation as a young Aretha. She initially met Steve when she joined a trio called Soul Messengers. Steve, from Gateshead, was raised listening to soul music. He is an established Latin percussionist and vocalist, who has supported legendary artists such as Joe Cocker, Jimmy James & the Vagabonds, Ian Dury & the Blockheads, Paul Young, Shakatak, Johnny “Guitar” Watson & many others. Now together as Solutions, the duo recently enjoyed success with their first two singles getting healthy radio support from the likes of Peter Young on Jazz FM.
More acts will be added to the SS9 bill shortly.
