One of the Summer Soulstice originals returns for his 12th appearance at our event… Ladies & gents, give it up for the ledge like Dr. Bob Jones!

Bob was Andy Weekes‘ favourite DJ as well as being a good friend of his from the soul scene for many years. A mainstay behind the decks all over the world for half a century now, spinning the highest quality soul, dance & jazz, from Southport to Tokyo, New York to St. Petersburg & pretty much everywhere in between… Bob Jones’ 50 years as a DJ was celebrated by us last year when we presented him with a special Gold Disc, surprising the veteran DJ in front of a cheering Connoisseurs crowd.

As well as being an award winning DJ, Bob has produced & remixed artists such as The Temptations, Al Green, Daryl Hall, Swing Out Sister & Bobby Womack. He’s also teamed up with long time colleague Lofty (Chilli Funk/Flying Records) recording & producing as East West Connection. Away from the recording studio Bob has consulted for television channels on programmes covering the history of black music, been a music journalist & a founder member of The BRBA (British Rhythm & Blues Association).

His club night The Surgery in London’s West End ran from 1993 to 1995 winning best UK Soul Club before Bob headed to The Blue Note in Hoxton for his famed LIFT nights for several years. He’s guested at festivals such as Tribal Gathering, Creamfields, Homelands, Big Chill & V Festival & for five years (1999-2004) Bob presented his ‘Surgery’ show on GLR (now BBC Radio London) before stints at Brighton’s Juice FM & London’s Colorful Radio. During his time he has interviewed the likes of Terry Callier, Jill Scott, Millie Jackson, Will Downing & Isaac Hayes. He can now be heard over the airwaves on Mi-Soul Radio every Sunday from 3pm-5pm.

A record label owner too (Black on Black Records), Bob has put together compilation albums for BBE (UK), Irma (Italy), Soulcamp (Germany), Flower (Japan) & Sfere Records (US). His enthusiasm for black music is unrivalled & Bob is still an avid aficionado of the genre he loves so much & which continues to take him around the globe. We are very grateful & extremely honoured for the time & support Dr. Bob Jones has given Summer Soulstice & the cause over the last dozen years & long may it continue.

You can catch his set once again in the Connoisseurs Corner on Saturday 23rd June!
