Rewind Selector!.. Ash is back!
Multi award winning DJ Ash Selector is a mainstay of Summer Soulstice, another of our ‘originals’ & we’re proud to have him back on the Main Stage for 2018!…
Ash won The Soul Survivors magazine’s Best Soul Club DJ in 2017 as well as Best Soul Radio Show with his long running ‘Groove Control’ on Solar Radio & alongside James Anthony, their Soul Shack night also picked up Best London Soul Club.
His djing career started way back in 1980 & along the way has included residencies at many famed London nightspots including the Wag Club, Iceni, The Limelight & Bar Royale in Camden. He’s also played regularly at the likes of Notting Hill Carnival, the Middlesex & Herts Country Club & around the UK at venues such as Bobby Browns (Birmingham) & Alley Cats (Stourbridge).
Along with friend & fellow DJ Steve Wren, Ash could be heard on the airwaves on Saturday nights during the 1990s on London’s Choice FM. He played various comical characters & supplied sound effects for the show, the most memorable being a variety of horns & whistles! Ash also MC’d for Steve @ the Caister Soul Weekenders & the Southport Dance Weekenders. In 1998 he joined the Soul City Movement as a DJ/MC touring Malta with RnB acts including Lemar & Kele Le Roc. In that same year Soul Shack began in London’s West End at a venue called the Soul Cafe (Wardour Street), initially as a weekly Friday night but due to it’s popularity, it moved to every Saturday. The night still continues to run as a monthly event on the 3rd Saturday of the month, with Ash & James just celebrating an incredible 20th anniversary, quite an achievement in London’s clubland.
Throughout the years Ash has been the official UK DJ for touring acts such as The Fatback Band, Marlena Shaw, Leroy Burgess, Don Blackman, Brass Construction, Gwen McCrae & the late, great Billy Paul, to name just a few on the list… A friend of Andy Weekes, he also continues to support various charity organisations & worthy causes which we are glad to say includes our own annual event, a cause he said he will “always support”.
