Marathon Man
Having always been the athletic type, Summer Soulstice’s very own Gilo is still full of sporting prowess after all these years & once again plans to run the London Marathon.
It’s all for a great cause obviously, but is also a personal challenge for one of Soulstice’s original crew, having had a brush with Parathyroid Cancer some 18 months ago. Gilo admits he was very lucky that the rare kind of cancer he had, was caught early & through the skill of his consultant Dr. Nick Law, barely has a visible scar to show for the months of treatment he recieved.
Following that scare, Gilo seems to have rekindled his love for running & feels it has given him an opportunity to get fit & meet lots of great, like-minded people. Then last autumn he decided to run in the London Marathon, something which he’d done before back in 2011 & which, he says, “nearly killed him”.
So why is he putting himself through it all again? “So I can help others less fortunate than myself” says an upbeat Gilo, “26.2 miles is a drop in the ocean compared to what this awful disease can subject people to.”
The world famous race takes place on Sunday 23rd April this year & is largest annual fundraising event on the planet. Gilo will be running on our behalf, in support of our good friends at Cherry Lodge Cancer Care & if you’d like to sponsor Gilo on his marathon task, then please go to his Virgin Money Giving page.
Good luck fella, we know it makes sense…
