Westcoast Soulstars

Westcoast Soulstars were formed late 2007 creating a live soul, funk and disco project, capable of delivering a professional hard hitting show with select songs from the 1970’s to modern day…

Margate Soul Weekend in 2008 saw the band’s first outing and began a roller coaster ride to the heights of the modern soul scene, being hailed as one of the best live acts out there.

The early years saw the project go through two line up changes until the line up of Eli Tompson & Janine Johnson came together. With a set full of rearranged soul funk classics such as Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway’s ‘Back Together Again’, Atlantic Starr’s ‘Circles’ and D Trains ‘You’re The One For Me’, the band slotted comfortably onto the big stage and took London’s Indigo2 by storm, first supporting Sister Sledge and then Chic, with the legendary Nile Rogers.

2010 saw the band work with David Joseph saying his performance with the band was one of the best ever. Junior Giscombe also gave his seal of approval working with the band in the same year.

Jenny McKenzie, founder of the Ultimate Boogie Nights at IndigO2 and the event’s host and compere James Anthony suggested it was time to create an original track to keep the demand growing and spring board the band onto the UK modern soul scene.

Eli, who’s vocal talents were discovered in church and who had an earlier professional career as a singer, songwriter and producer with a band called After Tonight, managed by Specials guitarist Lynval Golding, took time out to pen and produce ‘Show Me Love’ the band’s first single which reached No.3 in The UK Sweet Rhythms Chart. The song also took them through a series of unprecedented appearances at Caister Soul Weekender, being the only act in 30 years to be requested, in fact insisted, to do an encore by Caister legend Chris Hill and thus establishing the band’s footing in the scene.

In 2012 Westcoast Soulstars travelled to a sun drenched Barnet and delivered one helluva performance on our main stage. They continued to tour with their Digisoul Band performing live and pleasing soul lovers up and down the country until 2016.
