Drizabone Soul Family

The original Drizabone were formed in the early 1990’s by Billy Freeman, having an instant hit with ‘Real Love’, the timeless UK soul classic which endures on dance floors to this very day…

They soon followed up with a remix of ‘I Love Your Smile’ by US artist Shanice, which reached No.2 in the UK. Along with producing their own prestigious LP ‘Conspiracy’, they also remixed the legendary likes of Diana Ross, Mary J Blige, Lulu and Barry White.

Reformed as The Drizabone Soul Family, a name to represent the spirit of the new band, Billy is now working with a group of hugely talented and very close friends, musicians and family from his hometown of Northampton. Most of whom have known each other all their lives, making it more a family than a band.

Their 2010 album ‘All The Way’ was playlisted by the likes of Smooth Radio & BBC Radio2 and their busy tour schedule includes their own funky soulful live show and supporting the likes of Eliza Doolittle and Incognito. In 2011, they graced the main stage of Summer Soulstice where their blissful sounds and the north London sunshine, made for one memorable performance.

With some of the finest vocalists in Nataya, Anna Marie-Johnson, Sheniece McMenamen, Denise Gordon, Anneka Johnson and Natalie Valentine and a live band which features some heavyweight musicians, Billy emphasises “we write songs and make records the way they used to be, when songs were melodic and beautiful and still sound great years later. The achievement of this gives all of us a great feeling which lasts a lifetime”. A cliche, it maybe, but Drizabone Soul Family really is all about the music!…
