Friday Flashback

20th Century Box was a cutting edge TV series of it’s day, covering UK current affairs and cultural themes.

Back in 1980 this incredible piece of television shows the beginnings of the jazz funk scene in and around London. Recorded at The Royalty in Southgate, north London (just 5 miles from where Summer Soulstice is held) this short documentary features DJ’s such as Sean French, Froggy and Chris Hill.

It also features clips from the Front Line Brixton (look out for a young Ed Stokes!) plus the Soul Family tribes and artists such as Light Of The World and Linx.
