Tony Fernandez

DJ Header

Tony first started playing tunes at The Alma pub back in 1983 to help a friend out who was going on holiday & that was it, he’d fallen into this DJ thing by chance…

By 1984 he had his own little gig in Blues Wine Bar, Waltham Cross with Mervyn Lyn & then moved onto Rifles in Enfield, north London, which came calling in 1985 & where he resided as the club’s mainstay DJ for 10 years. Tony was also resident at Charlie Chans for 7 years which stood in the shadow of the old Walthamstow Stadium & now some three decades later he is still getting bookings all over the country. As Tony simply puts it,  “I’m just lucky to have met so many wonderful people who love the music on this scene of ours.”

Residencies also include, Soulgood, Richard’s Parties, The East Anglian Soul Weekend, Family Affair, CampSoul & Hayling Island. Mr Fernandez has also presented shows on Solar Radio & played at the world famous Caister Soul Weekender between 1986 – 1992. He also presented the Breakfast show on Stomp Radio every Saturday until recently.

Tony will also have great pleasure in telling you that he has had the privelege of working with legends of the music scene such as Lonnie Liston Smith, Gwen McCrae, Keni Burke, Terry Callier, Sam Dees, Randy Brown, De La Soul, Fatback Band, Kenny Thomas, Shaun Escoffrey, Jeff Hendrick to name but a few… Plus DJs of the calibre of Chris Hill, Tom Holland, Froggy, Frostie, Bob Masters, Dr. Bob Jones, Terry Jones, Bigger, Stretch Taylor, Gordon Mac, Norman Jay OBE & more.

Having been to Soulstice field of dreams on a few previous occasions with the Stomp crew, Tony finally made his DJ debut in our Club Tent at our 8th Summer Soulstice event! And with his son Max now taking to the decks, it seems the Fernandez era is set to continue even further into the future.

Good work fella.
