Tony Fernandez

Tony started playing tunes at a pub called The Alma back in 1983, to help out a friend who was going on holiday. And that was it, he’d fallen into this DJ thing by chance…

By 1984 he had his own little gig in Blues Wine Bar, Waltham Cross with Mervyn Lyn and a year later moved onto Rifles in Enfield, a notable north London nightspot, and where Tony resided as the club’s mainstay DJ for 10 years.

He was also resident at Charlie Chans for 7 years which stood in the shadow of the old Walthamstow Stadium and now some three decades later he is still getting bookings all over the country. As Tony puts it,  “I’m just lucky to have met so many wonderful people who love the music on this scene of ours.”

Residencies have also included, Soulgood, Richard’s Parties, The East Anglian Soul Weekend, Family Affair, CampSoul and Hayling Island Weekender. Tony has also presented shows on Solar Radio and Stomp Radio, as well as played the world famous Caister Soul Weekender between 1986-1992.

Tony will also have great pleasure in telling you that he’s had the privelege of working with legends of the music scene such as Lonnie Liston Smith, Gwen McCrae, Keni Burke, Terry Callier, Sam Dees, Randy Brown, De La Soul, Fatback Band, Kenny Thomas, Shaun Escoffrey, to name a select few… Plus DJs of the calibre of Chris Hill, Tom Holland, Froggy, Frostie, Bob Masters, Dr. Bob Jones, Terry Jones, Bigger, Stretch Taylor, Gordon Mac, Norman Jay OBE and others.

Having been to Summer Soulstice on a few previous occasions with the Stomp crew, Tony finally made his DJ debut in our Club Tent at our 2014 event and continues to play gigs such as SoulBoat on the Thames and Camp Soul Festival. And with his son Max now taking to the decks also, it seems the Fernandez era is set to continue even further into the future. Good work fellas!
