Initially he started playing soul and jazz funk in the late 1970’s when he was in the Worthing and Brighton area, spinning US imports that filled the dance floors with soul boys and gals. He later moved to London where he hit the student scene through “soul society gigs” at universities during the early 1980’s.
Later he picked up residencies in north London, notably in Muswell Hill at the Swiss Chalet, Enigma, Manhattans as well as the crazy West Hampstead venue O’Henrys bar. His career in the 1990’s saw him DJ at prestigious venues throughout London including Shaftesburys and Stringfellows and he promoted many glamorous parties for the capital city’s “it crowd”.
Nowadays Tim is based in Cheshire, where you can catch him every Saturday at the Residence (Nantwich) playing soulful house, nu-disco and anthems. He says “I still love seeing people get into the grooves with retro soul and funk. The ’70s and ’80s were such great times for soul music especially.”
We still like to remind him of his heroics at Summer Soulstice in 2010 when the CDJ’s unexpectedly broke down in the Club Tent and the man from Soulmix let the rest of the ‘vinyl-less’ DJ’s playing there that day, borrow his 12’s…
Tim Soulmix, a top man.
