Ginger Tony

Ginger Tony began his journey like so many others on the ‘soul scene’, with a love of good music picked up from his parents’ record collection…

Having served his apprenticeship DJ’ing at bars and clubs in south London and then discovering something called a ‘soul weekender’, Tony moved to Essex and continued playing and promoting to a new, wider audience.

Residencies at The Lacy Lady and The Surgery, plus playing the Bournemouth Soul Weekend and the Ibiza Soul Week, gave Tony the opportunity to DJ alongside many of his heroes including Bob Masters, Gary Dennis, Chris Hill, Dr Bob Jones,Norman Jay and Joey Negro.

An established member of the DJ fraternity, Ginger Tony once presented two shows on Solar Radio; Look Out Weekend and Jump Start (the latter producing three successful compilation albums). He also regularly contributed to The Soul Survivors magazine and held a monthly residency alongside Phil Levene at East Village in Shoreditch until the venue’s closure in 2014.

Between 2012 and 2016, Tony delivered scorching afternoon sets, much to the delight of the Club Tent crowds, at Summer Soulstice before in 2017 he decided to focus on his ‘day job’ as one the UK capital’s many hard working licensed Black Taxi drivers.

However in 2018, this crowd favourite returned to our field of dreams and brought his much missed, barefooted musical magic back to Summer Soulstice’s Connoisseurs Corner! You can even catch GT back on the digital airwaves courtesy of Mi-Soul Radio.
