Double J

North London’s JT and Jamie F have racked up a few decades of turntable tomfoolery between them – in the clubs, at showcases, the odd festival and now at least one of them is always on the radio…

Double-J delivered the best possible vibe for any party they played at and Summer Soulstice was no exception.

JT, a UK music industry veteran with the likes of Sleeping Bag Records, Arista Records UK which later became part of Sony BMG, also wrote for the black music industry standard magazine Blues & Soul for more than 15 years. As a music business consultant, he curates for DJ promo service CD Pool and until 2022 was one of the main people behind Summer Soulstice.

Having got the bug for soul, jazz funk and disco in his early teens, JT was soon building a record collection and after many a night in the likes of The Royalty (Southgate), Samantha’s (London) and The Mayfair (Tottenham), he began carving out a DJ career via a mobile sound system and residencies including The Dandy Lion in Barnet. He helped stage “Barnet’s first soul all-dayer” with artists such as Jocelyn BrownKenny Thomas, Lisa M and Glen Goldsmith all performing at what was, one of north London’s liveliest venues. It is also where the he first hooked up with Jamie F.

Jamie F started DJ’ing (and drank) in most of Barnet’s now decreasing pubs, but more memorably, was also another resident DJ in The Dandy Lion for more years than he cares to admit! Like JT, Jamie F has also had a long standing friendship with the Weekes family and has been an avid supporter of Summer Soulstice since day one, when he visited the event as a punter. When eventually asked to DJ at Summer Soulstice some five years later, he jumped at the chance saying it was “an honour and a privilege to be part of such a fantastic event.”

In 2013 the pair decided to double up their talents and play their particular brand of uplifting soul, house, boogie and hip hop. They hosted the highly successful spin-off nights for Summer Soulstice called Brews & Soul which were held every three months at The Black Horse in Barnet for almost six years, alongside co-resident Jester Groove and other guest DJ’s.

Over the years Double J played the likes of Secret Garden Party, Legends Of House (Corfu), The Frogmarch and Wheels & Fins Festival and span their last set together at Summer Soulstice in June 2022. Jamie F continues to DJ in clubs and on radio, while JT has hung up the headphones to concentrate on future projects.
