About

In 2006 a dear friend of ours and one of Barnet’s favourite sons, passed away from cancer in the USA, where he had lived for many years…

How It All Began

As a tribute to Andy Weekes and his passion of soul music, his family, close friends and a few old school mates organised a special event for the local community and the extended soul family in his home town. It was set out to be a celebration of his life and after first event in 2007, it was agreed to make it annual gathering, which has subsequently grown in size and popularity, year on year.

So what kind of person was Weeksie? “Andy lived life to the full,” says Dave James, chair of the organising commitee at Summer Soulstice. “He made friends with everyone and his passions were sport. He loved playing cricket, soccer and rugby & he especially loved the social side of all of these. Andy’s younger brother and fellow organiser Richard describes him as a friend, “whether it was on the way to school in the morning, or on the sports field or in the pub, you always wanted him by your side. You knew you were in for a good time.”

And of course Andy lived his life to the full and doing all of these things to the soundtrack of his life… classic & modern soul.

Shift Forward To Now

Over a decade later, this special Soulful, family friendly, all-day festival has become not just a firm favourite on the soul music event calendar, but also draws people from all over the country. Our own extended Soulstice family now travels from several parts of the UK each year to enjoy some “Soul on a Summer’s day” and we have regular visitors from France, Germany, Sweden and the Caribbean. Even Andy’s family have visited from California on several occasions, including his son Braedon.

With continued support and all the valued help from our crew members, our volunteers, the DJ’s, the artists, photographers and extended event team, as well as our hosts Old Elizabethans, we aim to carry on swelling the coffers of our chosen charity Cherry Lodge Cancer Care and to other local worthy causes. Since our humble beginnings some 17 years ago, we have raised over £500,000, a legacy that we think even Andy himself would have been proud.

Soulstice HQ is manned from Monday to Friday between 10am and 5pm. For enquiries please go to our Contact page. Or alternatively you can email us (please allow 48 hours for someone to respond to you) or get in touch with us via Facebook.
