25,000 Reasons To Party…

There was a carnival atmosphere in Barnet over the August Bank Holiday weekend, as the Soulstice Crew & friends bore witness to a generous cheque hand over & some…

Post-imageWith the day made all the better by some glorious sunshine, The Black Horse Tavern in Wood Street played the perfect hosts to this year’s Big Payback, with families, friends & many of the Soulstice faithful from near & a far enjoying a top day out.

Chairman of the Soulstice Committee Dave James, made an emotional speech prior to giving the incredible £25,000 raised from this year’s main event to Cherry Lodge & paid tribute to Pansy Weekes who so sadly passed away just 2 days after SS7. Despite the added poignancy of this year’s Soulstice, there was still a definite feeling of celebration at the Big Payback which also saw face-painting for the kids, a hog roast blow out (proceeds from this also going to Cherry Lodge) & a special Summer Soulstice Soul Brew made at the pub’s micro brewery & served at the bar all day. DJ’s on the day included Giloboy, Jester Groove, JT, Nicky Holloway, James Anthony & Brian Mac who kept the crowd happy all day & all night.

Earlier, some of the crew had paid a visit to EBOG’s Sports Ground (close to the Summer Soulstice site @ Old Elizabethans) to welcome home from his recent fight in Atlantic City, pride of Barnet & new IBF world boxing champion Darren Barker. Several hundred people turned out to support the club’s annual fundraiser Gary’s Day, a recently established fun day set up by Darren’s family in memory of his younger brother Gary, who tragically died in a road accident in 2006.

Proceedings start with a football match which also saw Darren in dazzling form on the ball too & is pictured above after the game with the Soulstice Crew’s Tony Theobald & Rich Hockings.

With the Soulstice 2013 mission completed, back at HQ we are now putting into place plans for 2014’s SS8 & the launch of a new regular Soul night @ The Black Horse, planned for early November…
